Addresses and Petitions to the Sovereign and Petitions to Parliament

Customers in the UK may post certain official documents to the Crown or Parliament free of charge. These can come in two types of signed original documents, asking the queen or an appropriate authority to act on their behalf in an official capacity;

  • a petition - a written document with signatures, requesting action on a particular issue (to parliament or the sovereign).
  • an address - a formal written representation or appeal from someone with a grievance that cannot readily be resolved by constitutional law (to the sovereign only).

We provide this service in response to Section 84 of The Post Office Act 1969.

Callers Service

This service allows you to pick up the following mail from your local delivery office:

  • undeliverable or surcharged items we've told you are available to collect.
  • your entire mail from a PO Box.
  • a specific packet we are holding.

Forwarding

Items you send may be put back into the post on the assumption that the addressee is not resident there.

Poste Restante

If you're travelling but want to stay in touch, you can take your letterbox with you. People can address mail to you and send it to any UK Post Office™ * and some main post offices in larger towns abroad. You can use the service for up to three months in any one UK town for any letters.

* The Poste Restante service is subject to operational capability.

Private Post Box

This is a posting box not owned by us and sited in a position accessible to the public from which we collect mail.

Private Roadside Letter Box

A secure letter-box owned by a customer, who uses it to receive their mail. A private roadside letter-box is usually positioned away from the front door of the customer's premises, thus providing an alternative delivery point. They are also known as garden-gate boxes, road-end boxes and rural roadside letter-boxes.
